Acro Rhythmic Dance
5 years upwards
A fusion of dance, acrobatics and rhythmic gymnastics. More dance than gymnastics — fluidity, grace and control, with ribbons and apparatus woven into routines.
Where our Acro/Gymnastics class leans towards artistic gymnastics, this one leans the other way. It is rooted in dance, and it is about artistry, flow and musical interpretation as much as it is about skill.
Students follow the BTDA acro syllabus through individual and partner skills, but the acro is always taught as movement — clean lines, fluid transitions, and skills that arrive in a routine rather than interrupting it. Rhythmic apparatus work with ribbons and balls adds coordination and creativity, and ballet barre technique underpins the whole thing.
It suits dancers who want to expand their vocabulary with acro and apparatus, and anyone drawn to rhythmic movement who wants technique and creativity in the same class.
